Stations of the Cross

Welcome to a Virtual Tour along the Via Dolorosa (the “Way of the Grief” in Latin or “Via Crucis”) in Jerusalem. In a series of videos you can visit ALL the STATIONS of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa and experience the suffering of Jesus in his final hours along the 14 stations of the Via Dolorosa. The first video to the right, gives a general overview of the Via Dolorosa and the location of the stations. The other videos below depict each station and tell its story. We hope you enjoy the journey.


Station 1 – Here is where the trial of Jesus took place at the Antonia Fortress, which was built by Herod the Great in order to protect the magnificent Temple that he built (the Second Temple). Here Jesus was brought to trial in front of Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator of Judea, who condemned Jesus to death by crucifixion. Now, let’s watch the video from this station.






Station 2 – Flagellation and Condemnation. This station is marked by two churches: The first church commemorates the flagellation of Jesus by the Roman soldiers, and the second church commemorates the condemnation of Jesus and the imposition of the cross on Jesus. Stations 3, 4 & 5 – These stations mark the places where Jesus falls for the first time (Station 3), where Jesus meets his mother (Station 4) and where Simon of Cyrenea is recruited by the Roman soldiers to help Jesus carry the cross. Now, let’s watch the video from these stations.





Stations 6 & 7 – These stations mark the place where Jesus meets Veronica and later falls for the second time. At station 6, Veronica wipes the face of Jesus, and this is where for the first time in history the image of Jesus is captured. At Station 7, Jesus falls for the second time. Station 8 – Here Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem and says to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, week not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children” (Luke XXII: 27-28). Now, Let’s watch this video and also find how Nike, the sports company, is related to Jesus.






Station 9 – This station marks the place where Jesus falls for the third time. The station is located on premises belonging to the Coptic Community – the Christians of Egypt , and it is the last station before we enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the last five stations of the Via Dolorosa are located.


Stations 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 – These are the last five stations of the Via Dolorosa, and they are all located within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Station 10 – Jesus is stripped of his garments; Station 11 – Jesus is nailed to the cross; Station 12 – Jesus dies on the cross; Station 13 – Jesus’ body is placed in his mother’s arms; Station 14 – The tomb of Jesus.
